Japanese Destroyer Chokai Departs for San Diego for Tomahawk Training
The Japanese destroyer JS Chokai has departed Yokosuka Naval Base for San Diego on a yearlong deployment to train its crew in Tomahawk cruise missile operations and undergo modifications to launch the U.S.-made weapons, Japan’s Ministry of Defense (MOD) said. The Kongo-class Aegis destroyer, which will be the first Japanese warship converted for Tomahawk use, left Yokosuka Naval Base on Friday after conducting Tomahawk loading drills with dummy rounds under U.S. Navy supervision.
US Air Force Reactivates WWII Squadron as Reaper Drone Unit in South Korea
The U.S. Air Force has reactivated a World War II-era fighter squadron, redesignating it as an MQ-9 Reaper drone unit permanently stationed at Kunsan Air Base in South Korea. The 431st Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron, activated Sunday under the command of Lt. Col. Douglas Slater, will serve as a tenant unit of the 8th Fighter Wing, known as “the Wolf Pack,” the service announced in a press release.
